Due to the current lockdown restrictions it will not be possible for people to gather at the memorial on McMullen Road in Darlington, to commemorate the crash in which Pilot Officer William S. McMullen of the Royal Canadian Air Force was killed in 1945. Instead, this year, a virtual gathering will take place using Zoom.
On Wednesday 13 January 2021, beginning at 8.30pm, Chris Lloyd of the Northern Echo will give an account of the events leading up to the crash of McMullen’s Lancaster Bomber. He will be joined by Councillor Chris McEwan, the Mayor of Darlington. There will be a minute’s silence at 8.49 pm – the time of the crash.
The online event is free to join and open to everyone. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘McMullen’ in the subject field to ask for the link details.
You will need to have the Zoom software installed on your device in advance. The link will then allow you to access the event, from 8.20pm on Wednesday 13 January.
